The star has given the complete sum of his £25k award prize money to the MVT, which operates to preserve the Britain's small music venues.

Fender was given the cheque on October 16 as his latest record the album was declared the best record of the previous year.

Fender has decided to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part small stages had in his beginning days.

"I personally would not have achieved what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the performances I performed around the region, and further afield, when I was just getting going," said Fender. "These spaces are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – about 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the trust in its initiatives to help venues survive, by applying a small levy to their admission fees, which goes to help independent venues.

He also joined in, collecting over £100k on his live tour to assist 38 grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds supported venues that were dealing with potential shutdown due to difficulties caused by floods, blazes and personal losses, as well as permit problems, conflicts and noise complaints.

Additional spaces received monetary aid in modernizing facilities and technical equipment that positively impacted musicians and audiences.

"The notion that money from performances in large arenas supports the smaller venues, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has stated.

And winners that year they contributed their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was identified with the condition.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," stated artist the singer. "The prize was the extra but we could do without the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our success affected somebody else's life."

In the past week, the trust shared it had saved two local spots in the South East, by placing them under community ownership.
